The massive windfall came via two separate thirty six million pound injections from cryptocurrency billionaires Christopher Harborne and Ben Delo, marking the largest single donations in the history of British politics. Speaking on Sky News, Jenrick described the funding as a breakthrough moment for the party, though he remained vague when asked if the money would be returned should it be found to violate upcoming legislation.
The controversy centers on a proposed government bill designed to curb foreign influence in domestic politics by limiting donations from British expatriates who have lived abroad recently. Both donors have ties to overseas residences, with Harborne based in Thailand and Delo having recently returned from Hong Kong. Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner has warned that these new rules could be applied retrospectively, meaning Reform might eventually be forced to pay back the sums if they fall foul of the updated law.
